It might sound bizarre but a little Goldfish named George recently underwent a big operation. A tumor was successfully removed from the Goldfish's head. The surgery was performed at the Lort Smith Animal Hospital in Melbourne, Australia and went on for an hour.

In a good news, the little George is now recovering in his pond in his Melbourne home. The hospital's Facebook page says the surgery went 'swimmingly.'

The 10-year-old's behavior was affected due to the tumor that developed over the past year.

"George's owners decided to do the surgery as he was a much-loved pet who was suffering with the tumor," Lort Smith told Live Science. "It wasn't a brain tumor, but it was a tumor growing from his head," he added.

The other fishes in the pond were bullying George as he was having problem in eating and even in swimming, Dr. Tristan Rich, head of the hospital's exotic and wildlife vet team, told Melbourne"s 7News.

Lort Smith's Facebook page says that three buckets were used during the surgery - one had the initial anesthetic dose, second had proper anesthetic to keep the fish asleep, while the third had clean water, where the George recovered.

Injections, pain killers and antibiotics were given to George while he was kept in the recovery bucket.

"Soon afterwards he took a couple of breaths on his own and started swimming around," according to the statement on Facebook.
