American Shorthair is domestic cat with curious, active, playful and easy going nature. American Shorthair Cat is good natured and very adaptable cat. American Shorthair Cat has good hunting ability but she is also very good as a family companion. Good playtime can be enjoyed with this cat by kids, as this cat breed is quiet, but active also. American Shorthair Cat has calm temperament. These cats don’t demand additional activities for them or attention by their owner. They are easy going. In Hypertrophic cardio myopathy, fibrotic scar tissues replace heart muscles, wall of heart gets thickened. Fluid accumulation in the abdomen, rapid heart rate and lethargy are common symptoms of declining heart functions which can be recognised in early stage of this disease. If proper care, love & attention and proper diet given to these cats, they can live for more than 15 years. Regular veterinary checkups and annual vaccinations are must for proper health care of American Shorthair Cat. There are lot of health issues occurrence chances in mixed breed cats and pedigree cats. Many problems of them are genetic. Generally this cat breed cats are healthy, but it will be good if you ask breeder for any particular kind of health issues in her line. American shorthair cat needs moderate maintenance. Dead hairs can be removed by regular combing of hairs of cat. Brushing hairs helps in distributing skin oils also. As per time and climate of the year, American Shorthair cat coat gets thicken or lighten & sheds. For preventing any kind of periodontal disease, it is good to brush the teeth weekly as dental hygiene is necessary. In every two weeks, trim the nails as they grow quickly and check ears also. You can leave this cat alone at home also, there is no risk like other cat owners have. These cats like to play with interactive toys and puzzle toys. Some cats hide under bed or sofa or in room when some guests come, but American Shorthair Cat is very social with people and other animals also.
