We are very sad to inform that despite huge worldwide outcry, the pet dog of Spanish Ebola patient was euthanized today. The owner of the dog had also pleaded to spare the pet.

Javier Limon and his wife and Ebola patient Teresa Romero Ramos owned Excalibur. They broke down when they were told that their mixed breed dog Excalibur was put down.

Spain&rsquos Ministry of Health has confirmed that the dog has been euthanized, saying it was sedated before putting down.

Teresa is being treated for Ebola at a hospital in Madrid. There have been protests against Spain&rsquos decision to euthanize the dog.

Police scuffled with animal rights activists while they were escorting a health team into the building. The protesters tried to block the ambulance, while shouting &ldquoKiller&rdquo.

Madrid officials were afraid that the dog could have been affected with the virus and could possibly pass it on to humans with a bite or lick.

Limon has been quarantined for observation. He was seen pleading for help for his dog in a video, claiming, "They want to kill him for no reason." 

Thousands of people signed a petition urging authorities to spare the innocent dog. Teresa, a nurse, contracted the disease after caring a Spanish priest, who died of Ebola.
