Characteristics :
Thoroughbred horses ranges from 62 inches to 68 hands tall. White marks can be visible on lower legs & face. Well chiselled head on long neck is prominent feature of Thoroughbred of good quality. High withers, a short back, a deep chest, a lean body, long legs & good depth of hindquarters are characteristics of Thoroughbred Horse. Thoroughbred horses have large expressive eyes. They are exceptionally long, fine boned legs with small hooves, sloping shoulders & thin skin.

All over the world, it is very easily recognizable horse breed. Thoroughbred Horses look like their Arabian Ancestors.  Thoroughbred Horse breed is specially bred for speed & agility, as these horses are hot blood so considered courageous, spirited & bold. Thoroughbred Horses have great stamina for racing as they are primary bred for racing. Thoroughbred Horse has delicate head, broad chest & slim body that add up to this breed personality.
Temperament :
Thoroughbred Horse are sensitive. Hot blood horses are very well known of their environment, they are very responsive to their rider, in other group of horses they can be tense to some extent as they become spooky by knowing environment very well. Thoroughbred Horses are brave, courageous, spirited, alert & loyal. Buying Thoroughbred Horse means buying a loyal, fast & athletic horse.
Care :
Some orthopaedic problem should be taken care by owner for owning Thoroughbred Horse. Generally Thoroughbred Horse breed is perceived healthy there are no such known health issues for Thoroughbred Horse. Excess stress taken by horses can shorten their life span, like stress emerged from very extreme racing conditions. Proper food (includes hay & grain) and training is needed to be provided to horse. Medical Care & emergency insurance also to be noted.
History :
Ancestor of Thoroughbred Horses are Godolphin Arabian, Darley Arabian & Byerly Turk (crossed with Barb & Tukmon (Oriental Breeds)). Thoroughbred Horses were bred to improve quality of other breeds extensively particularly for racing & jumping. This breed was bred during 17th or 18th Century when some of stallions came to England from Middle East. Thoroughbred Horses got famous by early flat racing and now it is amongst the best racing horses breed.
Suitable :
Thoroughbred Horses are not suitable for novice owners, as these horses are very responsive and they can respond very well even to slightly heel bump of rider, someone who is already racing or owning horse can be good owner of Thoroughbred Horse. Someone having equine experience can make them wonderful partner by careful & correct training.
