Characteristics :
Zanskari Horses are well built, they have compact body, their eyes are predominant, and they have erect ears and deep chest. Zanskari Horse tail is heavy and long. Zanskari Horse has long manes. Zanskari Horse can survive in hypoxic environment of Ladakh easily. Body Length of Zanskari Horses is 38 to 45 inches. Zanskari Horses eyes are predominant. These horses are usually medium in size. Body hairs of Zanskari Horses are long, fine and glossy. 
Personality :
Zanskari Horse is one of famous horse breed in India. Zanskari Horse has uniform movement gait. Zanskari Horse runs swiftly. One can rely upon Zanskari Horse flexibility and strength. Zanskari Horses are very similar to Spiti Horses but in working in high altitudes and carrying load for long distances these Zanskari Horses are more adaptable than Spiti Horse and can work for long hours as they are strong and hard worker. They are used for Pleasure riding and showing also. 
Temperament :
These Zanskari Horses can survive easily in cold environment. Zanskari Horses are very obedient to their master or riders also. Zanskari Horses are intelligent. Zanskari Horses never neglect the work and all the time except they are enough tired are willing to work. At very High altitude they can work for long hours without getting tired.
Care :
Forages such as grasses and legumes, small amounts of cereal grains including corn and oats clean, fresh water is required for Zanskari Horse. There no such serious health issues are known for Zanskari Horse breed to be faced. Feeding, grooming, hoof care, shoeing, leg care, bandaging, veterinary care are must for Zanskari Horses. Else a first aid kit should be available all the time. Vaccinations, dental care and regular checkups are required. 
History :
Zanskari Horse is native Himalayan Horse Breed.  Zanskari breed name is on Zanskar Valley in Kargil District. Manipuri, Spiti & Bhutia Horses are very much linked to Zanskari Horses. It is believed that Zanskari Horse came from Tibetan Pony. Before 1977, Zanskari Horse use to live in Ladakh. This breed is endangered by non-descript ponies to be crossed with Zanskari Horses breed at large scale. Now very less pure blood Zanskari Horses are remained in Ladakh which includes Zanskar Gorge.
